Filmed in a gallery space set up to resemble a bedroom in this video work the artist enters the bedroom and sitting on the bed begins to shave her legs. This act results in the gradual disappearance of her legs. Indifferent to this result she continues to cover her entire body from head to foot with cosmetic products – lotions, spray, talc and a variety of make-up. Each application to the body is followed by the fading and eventual invisibility of the body part attended to, dramatically culminating in the artist’s body completely vanishing, her presence reduced to a mere bodily outline. “Body Mist” is suggestive of the notion that for women the ultimate visibility stems from the eradication of their natural bodies. Given that the longer one watches the less one sees of the female body this work equally uses the performance of disappearance to offer a retort to the overt objectification of the female body in contemporary
